Accessing Services

The Children’s Integrated Speech and Language Therapy Service for Hackney and The City is a provider service. We accept commissions from a range of sources to provide comprehensive services. There are two categories of referral, below:

Children under 5 years old

Children under 5, who live in Hackney or The City can come to drop in clinics, that we call ‘Talking Walk-ins’ at many locations around the borough. For details, click here. No referral is needed, so parents can just be directed to the nearest ‘Talking Walk-in.’

If you prefer a written referral please complete a SLT referral form and email it to us at huh-tr.sltinfo@nhs.net or post it to:

Speech and Language Therapy, 1st Floor, D Block St. Leonard’s Hospital, Nuttall Street,  London, N1 5LZ

A free DVD explaining the services to under 5s is available to all Hackney parents from the above address. DVDs can only be delivered to Hackney postal addresses

Children and Young People aged 5 years and over

All primary schools maintained by Hackney Learning Trust receive a core offer. Most schools also choose to commission further services from us. This includes the majority of Hackney secondary schools, academies, colleges and Pupil Referral Units.

The service operates a link therapist model. This means that a Speech and Language Therapist comes into your school regularly getting to know your school and the children. The amount varies according to the size, needs and the traded services commission. To refer a child, over the age of 5, who attends a Hackney educational setting, speak with the school SENCO or school Link Speech and Language Therapist.

For Hackney and The City schools, and those outside the borough who commission, please speak with your school SENCO regarding all referrals. Alternatively, complete this SLT referral form and return it to huh-tr.sltinfo@nhs.net or post it to:

Speech and Language Therapy, 1st Floor, D Block St. Leonard’s Hospital, Nuttall Street,  London, N1 5LZ
